Scare Wash Calgary
October 29th – 31st

B!G ART ( a collection of misfits, weirdos and immersive artists) is proud to bring you the first annual Scare Wash – a live, in-person, in-vehicle horror show…and free car wash. It’s the least we can do after scaring the living daylight out of you. Also, it protects you, and our cast and crew.

If you’re like us, you can’t handle any more “virtual” experiences and you’re looking for the real deal, but covid-friendly(ya, that’s a phrase we use now). This 10 minute experience will take you to hell and back, in your car, and challenge the most strong-willed, horror-loving guests.

We don’t want to give too much away, but be prepared for a truly unique, one-of-a-kind experience, complete with live actors, special fx, intelligent lighting, fm transmitted soundtrack and more. The Scare Wash will definitely be something you will never forget…or maybe something you’ll spend years in therapy trying to forget. That being said, this is NOT an experience for children, or anyone generally under the age of 12 years old. In fact, we recommend 14+ with an adult.

Tickets and showtimes are extremely limited and we expect to sell out, so head to our ticket page and scoop yours now! $1 from every ticket goes to the Calgary Food Bank and we are taking non-perishable food items as well.

Support your local…everything. We’re stronger together.

Frequently Asked Questions

B!G ART presents The Scare Wash

Frequently Asked Questions

Above all else, we are committed to the safety of our guests and experience creators. This drive-in experience was specifically created to address the public health concerns facing our community as we deal with the COVID-19 pandemic.

Your vehicle will be washed inside the bay, before your experience, to protect our experience creators, and washed again on the way out to protect you. The entire experience is designed to meet, and exceed, all public health safety guidelines as determined by AHS, the Province of Alberta and other public safety authorities.

You must remain in your vehicle for the entire experience with your windows rolled up, your doors locked and your FM radio tuned to our broadcast. Once parked inside the bay, you will be asked to turn off your vehicle. After all, that’s what you do in a normal car wash, right?

What is the experience?

Scare Wash is an immersive, in-vehicle theatrical performance. There are performance groups all over the world creating these wonderful, alternative forms of halloween horror experiences to help us all deal with a pandemic that has altered the most basic ways in which we connect. We are doing our best to continue this new tradition and we sincerely hope you enjoy the originality and hard work we’ve put into the experience.

How long is the experience?

Each experience varies slightly, but the average run time is 10-12 minutes.

Will the characters tough my vehicle?

It’s inevitable that your vehicle will come in contact with water, props, costume and makeup up. BUT, we will wash it all off after. That’s the beauty of the car wash. This is one of the reasons it’s imperative you stay in your vehicle at all times.

Where are you located?

The experience takes place at the 10th and 10th car wash inside the wash bays. When you arrive please wait patiently at the entrance of the bay until an attendant approaches your vehicle with directions.

10th and 10th car wash is located at 1104 10 Ave SW.

When are you open?

The experience runs from Thursday October 29th to 31st. Click on tickets to see available dates and times. We add shows frequently, so come back and check for new dates  www.showpass.com/o/scare-wash\

What time can we arrive for our selected experience?

Please arrive at least 15 minutes before the time on your ticket. You can expect to wait between 10 and 12 minutes. Late arrivals will not be allowed entry.

How many tickets do I need?

You only need one ticket per vehicle. Seriously. It’s a sweet deal, we know.

How many people are allowed in a vehicle?

Bring the whole crew…as long as you all have seatbelts, it’s cool with us. If you really want a challenge, come alone.

How young is too young to attend this experience?

This experience is scary. Seriously. This isn’t kitchy and cheesy, it’s disturbing. We don’t recommend anyone under 14.

Do I need to print my tickets?

No, don’t waste the paper. Show us the electronic version on your mobile device.

Can I buy tickets at the “door”?

All tickets need to be pre-purchased through our online platform. However, you may purchase at any time, based on availability.

Are spaces reserved or is it first come, first serve?

All bays only fit one vehicle, so you are guaranteed the best spot in the house, everytime!

Can we sit in the bed of our truck

No. You must be inside a vehicle with all of the doors closed and locked, and windows rolled up. This is for your safety and the safety of our experience creators.

Do you run the experience rain/snow or shine?

Yes. Ugly weather is our friend, it only intensifies the experience.

Can we walk or ride our bikes to the experience?

No. Unfortunately, you may only attend the experience in a vehicle. This is to protect you and our experience creators.

How do you get sound for the experience?

You will be provided a bluetooth speaker by our car attendant. We also have audio inside the bay.

What about the guys in the trunk?

They don’t have to pay as long as they stay in the trunk with the lid closed during the entire experience.

Is there parking if I arrive early?

Not in the 10th and 10th lot directly, so please arrive in a timely fashion. However, there is a paid parking lot next to us in which you can wait.

What if my car battery dies?

Notify the attendant. We have a booster kit on site?

Can we bring our pets?

No. Pets are strictly prohibited.

Can we dress up?

Psssh, yeah! Bonus points for anyone dressing like a car wash attendant. All we ask is your costume doesn’t interfere with the operation of your vehicle, or site lines of others inside your vehicle.

Can we bring snacks?

Sure, but don’t bring anything you might choke on with a sudden scare.

Can we take video and photos?

No. The experience is incredibly unique and we want everyone to share in the surprise. However, if you bring a non-perishable food item for the Calgary Food Bank, we will snap a commemorative digital photo and send it via cloud services.

What can I bring with me into the wash bay?

You need to bring the mobile device attached to the phone number you provided upon check out. This is crucial to the performance and your safety, The phone must remain on, with the ringer turned to high.

Can we purchase food and beverages on site?

No.

Are there washrooms?

No. Please use the washroom before attending the experience.

Can I leave at any time?

You must remain in your vehicle for the entire experience

What kind of vehicles are acceptable?

We are using standard wand wash bays. As long as your vehicle can fit, you’re good. That being said, most standard passenger vehicles fit, but we ask that you bring no vehicle over 3m tall and 5m long. All passengers must be fully enclosed inside the vehicle for the safety of guests and crew.

Can I bring alcohol or cannabis?

No. Leave it at home. Driving while under the influence is illegal.

Can I leave my car running?

No. This is for the safety of you and our experience creators. We will take your keys once you are inside the bay for the safety of our cast and crew.

What if the experience is too scary for me or others in my vehicle?

Well, it is a scary experience and we hope you know what you signed up for. BUT, sometimes scary is too scary. Simply honk your horn a few times and the characters will stop the experience and help you exit the wash bay.

Do you have Covid-19 protocols?

Yes. We have a set of rules and guidelines for our crew that exceed the current recommendations by AHS and the City of Calgary. If you would like to see this document, please ask.

What if I’m pregnant?

We don’t recommend the experience if you’re pregnant. Please contact your physician for recommendations.

What if I have a heart condition?

This experience may be too intense for your heart condition, and many other medical conditions, and we do not recommend attendance. Please consult with your doctor to determine your specific risk.

Should I attend if I’m epileptic or suffer from seizures?

Absolutely not. This experience includes strobing lights and other special effects that have the potential to severely affect someone with epilepsy, or other conditions.

What if I don’t feel well?

Please do not attend if you are unsure of your physical health. COVID-19 symptoms are often mild, or nearly undetectable, and asymptomatic transmission is unpredictable and tough to contact trace.

Do I need to wear a mask?

Always keep a mask with you. We may require you to wear a mask if you need to exit your vehicle and interact with our crew.

What happens if I need to leave the experience?

Sometimes life gets the better of us, and you gotta run. We get it, honk a few times and turn on your lights, the characters will halt the experience and escort you out of the bay.

Can you kick us out?

Yes. We reserve the right to eject you from the bay, and the property, if you are endangering our crew and/or others. We will not tolerate any abuse, drugs, alcohol, weapons, and anything else inappropriate for an experience of this nature. If you wouldn’t do it at a live theatre, don’t do it here. Thanks in advance for being kind and awesome.

How do I get involved?

We’re always looking for good people to help us make the experience bigger and better. And, we’re always interested in in-kind sponsorship, or other forms of sponsorship. Send a message to info@scarewash.com
